November 13th was such a great day-busy, but wonderful. That day was the groundbreaking for the Gilbert Arizona temple. This temple was announced 2 years ago, and is only 2 miles from our home. Although we are so blessed to have another temple only 25 min from us, we have been so excited for this new addition.
There was going to be seating for 5000 people, but 8-10 thousand showed up. It was so amazing to see all these people come to this sacred site and be apart of it all. Elder Carlos Asay was the speaker and her was fabulous.
After a morning of football games, we raced home to change and then headed to the grounds. We met up with our fabulous friends, the Schlerf family. We do so much with them and are so thankful for their friendship. Plus it's an added bonus that our kids are about the same ages and get along so very well.
To pass the time before the ceremonies started, we walked around the grounds. We were able to go and hold the shovels that were going to be used for the ground breaking ceremony. The kids thought it was neat to see these gold shovels, with pictures of the temple on them. We also were able to see a rendering of what the temple will look like.
It was such a neat experience to be there and feel of the special spirit that comes with a temple building. The kids loved it and often ask if we can just drive by the site and see what progress is being made.
