Ringing in the New Year in SD

Since Travis had days off that needed to be used, we decided to go to San Diego for a week after Christmas. Even though we've been there so many times, there are still so many things that we haven't done. The weather was colder than typical San Diego weather, but made for some beautiful sunsets.
This time we went to the Cabrillo National Monumnet/Park out at Point Loma. It wasovercast, but made for a beautiful day. Cabrillo was the explorer who first found San Diego-so there was a lot of history about him-which Kennedy and Camden LOVED.
Then there was the old light house that we were able to tour-another favorite. There is just something so neat about a lighthouse.

Afterward we went down to the beach and explored the tide pools. It was great because it was the lowest tide of the year. We saw Star fish, sea anamones (which the kids love to touch and watch them shrink into a ball), crabs, and even 2 key-hole limpets (crazy looking creatures). It's so fun to be out there and just exploring-felt like being a kid all over again.
Most of Point Loma is owned by the military, and they have a cemetary that is beautiful! The point is literally a point that extends out into the ocean-on one side is the bay and on the other is the open sea. The cemetary is built on both sides, so you have rows and rows of these beautiful white headstones, set to the back drop of the ocean. We went out there twice-the bottom 2 were on a sunny day, while the top 2 were that overcast day. (Maybe we're a little morbid, but we thought it was a beautiful sight. We also went to the San Diego Zoo on New Years Eve. We had been once before when Kennedy was little. So it was fun knowing how to tackle the zoo more effeciently (took the bus everywhere!) and with more eyes loving it.

It's so amazing to be so close to these beautiful creatures.
Addie loved the Oquapi (Thank you Diego)-and now that she's obtained a vocabulary, sounds just so cute saying "O-cop-e". Kennedy loved the PINK flamingos, Travis was in awe of the gray wolf, our own little monkey-Camden-loved the monkeys, and Amber just loved watching her own little zoo at the zoo.We also were able to get some good visiting time in with Grandma & Grandpa Pug, Aunt Edie & Danielle, and Uncle Bill and Aunt Joanne. We helped in the garden, played some games, watched the Rose parade and bowl games, and ate some GOOD food.
And of course we had to go to Seaport Village. There was a gentleman there who was balancing rocks on top of each other-it was very neat to watch. And we got our customary family photo by the bay-two actually-couldn't pick the better of them.

We really enjoyed our long break together as a family. Including time off for Christmas, we had a whole week and a half off and together. It was bery sad when Travis had to return to work and the kids had to return to school.

Now I don't need to go on any vacations of my own...I can just live vicariously through yours. Nice, thorough job posting it. I felt like I was almost with you!
